The 2018 Pro Tennis Exhibition Series to benefit the Suncoast Humane Society starts with the first Men’s Semifinals match on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. at the Boca Grande Club. Come out to watch the first match of the season with the Boca Bay Pass Club’s Tennis Director H Wetzel, The Inn’s Assistant Pro Jamie Thormann, Series veteran and Jacaranda West’s Tennis Director Adam Zastempowski, and 2017 third place finisher Luke Andreae. Exhibitions are open to the public and donations of $5 per spectator will benefit the Suncoast Humane Society. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
All exhibitions will take place each Wednesday at 3 p.m. (instead of 4 p.m. in order to finish matches before dark) from January 31st to March 14th. Men’s and Women’s Doubles matches will take place on alternating weeks with a finale of a Mixed Doubles and Battle of the Sexes finale among the top two men and women on March 14th. Players of the first Women’s Semifinals match on Wednesday, February 7th include Boca Grande Club’s Head Pro and former top 100 world-ranked player Karin Miller, 2016 and 2017 Series winner Mara Schmidt, 2017 Series Runner-Up Amanda Rodgers, and 2016 Series Runner-Up Tatiana Soldatova.
In the weeks to follow, spectators will get to see Series 7-time champion and Shadowood Country Club’s Head Pro Scott Harrington, fan favorite and The Landings’ Tennis Director John Janes, Boca Bay Pass Club’s Assistant Pro Skylar Warren, Boca Grande Club’s Assistant Pro Sam Johnston, 2015 Series Champion Jess Steck, 2017 third-place finisher Gyorgyi Zsiros, and Boca Grande Club’s Tennis Director Jen Fiers.
The 2018 Tennis Ball to benefit the Suncoast Humane Society takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Boca Grande Club. This event is open to the public with a live and silent auction. For tickets, please visit humane.org or call the Boca Grande Club at 964-2211.
