Halloween festivities will commence for island children today … doesn’t it just give you the chills?
On Friday, Oct. 30 island businesses and The Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce will host their annual Halloween Trick or Treat Walk, which will begin at 4 p.m. and end when shopkeepers close their stores. Stop by local businesses, show off your costumes and grab a little candy.
On Halloween afternoon Lee County Parks & Recreation and the Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center will hold their annual Halloween Carnival and Costume Contest. Please note time changes below.
The line-up for the Costume Parade and Contest will be at 12:45 p.m. this year, with the events beginning at 1 p.m. Carnival games, Alien Invasion laser tag, the cake walk and the Black Cat Cafe will be open from 1:30 to 3 p.m., and the costume contest results will be announced at 2 p.m.
Bring your cakes for the cake walk between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The slide and Alien Invasion have been kindly sponsored by the Boca Grande Woman’s Club.
This year the community center will also host a halloween cake decorating and pumpkin carving contest, in connection with the Halloween Carnival. Drop off your decorated cake or cupcakes or your carved pumpkin at the Woman’s Club Room on Friday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Cakes and pumpkins will be judged by selected community members.
There will be one winner for each contest in the categories of scariest, most traditional and most creative.
When you drop off your cake/cupcakes and/or your carved pumpkin, fill out a registration form with each entry. All cakes and cupcakes will be used for the cakewalk and carved pumpkins will be used as door prizes. See you at the fair!
