Howard Witt is an enthusiastic native of Chicago. He loves the city, but he doesn’t love woodpeckers. We’ll explain that more later.
He was raised in the city by his father, who worked for Western Electric, and his mother, the daughter of the mayor of Oak Park. His father was a man who, Howard says, didn’t believe in owning anything. “We lived in an apartment because he didn’t want to own a house,” he said. “We traveled by streetcar because he didn’t want to own a car.”
On Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 Dorothy Patricia Kaiser passed away in Washington, D.C.
She was the loving wife of 64 years of John Kaiser, cherished mother of Nancy Dufrane (Richard), Linda Brant (Michael) John Kaiser (Karen) Patricia Vincent (Norman), June Kaiser, Kurt Kaiser (Nora), William Kaiser (Sue) and Timothy Kaiser.
Mitt Romney came out the winner at the Boca Grande polls on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in the Republican presidential primary election. By the end of the day, he had garnered 346 votes at the Boca Grande Community Center polling place.
The Literature Forum and Hilary Fix will present “The Dewbreaker” by Edwidge Danticat on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. in the Woman’s Club Room at the Boca Grande Community Center.
Early Monday morning the Boca Grande Fire Department and Sea Tow responded to a call of a boat washed up on the rocks in Charlotte Harbor, by Boca Bay. Neighbors say that a cooler and other items were left on a nearby lawn by the boat’s occupants, who all escaped without injury. The boat was removed by Sea Tow the same day.

A benefit for The Island School, “The Tarpon Ball Round-up,” is their biggest fundraiser of the year, and will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Amory Chapel.
The Sea School will hold a captain's license course that at the Boca Grande Fire Dept. from Monday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 12, with the final exam on Saturday, Feb. 18.
The class will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
