Her long and winding path to Boca Grande is more than just interesting ... it’s a testament to just what a woman can do all on her own. And just what she did was become a very well-known photographer, and she will be helping out shooting pictures from the Boca Beacon from time to time as well.


Obituary: Avery T. Funkhouser

 

Avery Thompson Funkhouser, 74, of West Falmouth, Mass., and Boca Grande died on June 9, 2013 at the JML Care Center due to complications from lung cancer.

Tarpon queen, birthday girl take first in Ladies Howl

 

Read more...BY MARCY SHORTUSE - Jill Chatham and the Jill Marie team had no idea whatsoever they had won first place in the 5th annual Ladies Howl at the Moon Tarpon Tournament until they heard Smitty, the head judge, role call the boats and fish caught near the end of the tournament. Suddenly they realized the truth ... tarpon must really like rump-shaking music, because they were so busy dancing they didn’t realize they were in first.


Gilchrist plans in Lee County's hands now

Read more...BY MARCY SHORTUSE - After all that has been said in the last few months about Gilchrist Avenue, Lee County employees are now trying to make up their own plan to bring to the residents of Gasparilla Island. According to representatives from Commissioner John Manning’s office, Randy Cerchie and the Lee County Public Works Department are now working on the project, to attempt to find some happy medium.
