The theme will be “Your Life, Your Legacy, Adopt A MPA.”
Guests can mingle with filmmakers, photographers, artists, scientists, deep-sea explorers and ocean ambassadors.
Joseph Ierna Jr., Founder of Ocean Crest Alliance, said this event will be very unique, as Dr. Sylvia Earle will be speaking about the rich history of the Cape Haze area.
“Sylvia is probably the most important person of our times today leading the fight for our oceans. A little known fact is that Mote’s Founder Dr. Eugenie Clark gave Sylvia her first job and Sylvia did grow up on Florida’s west coast in Dunedin,” Ierna said.
A special tribute will take place to honor Dr. Eugenie Clark at the event.
“Eugenie and Sylvia both started their careers together in this area. They dove together in Cape Haze in 1955, so there will be quite a bit of interesting history discussed,” Ierna said.
Ierna said OCA and their partners believe with the building of a global network of marine protected areas, they will foster a new revolution in food resources.
Chefs will present a meal consisting of lionfish and foods and wines served will represent a sustainable future of farming on land and sea.
“All of our speakers are persons that our audience members will want to meet and know more about,” Ierna said.
The fundraiser equally supports the ocean conservation organizations: Ocean CREST Alliance, Mission Blue, Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, NOAAH and Mote Marine Laboratory.
