Betty Jane Shiarella, passed away on November 19, 2015. She was born in New Kensington, PA on May 5, 1931 and went through the Arnold, PA school system, graduating from Arnold High School. Mom married my father, George Shiarella, on July 7, 1951 and the couple ultimately settled in New Jersey, where they raised three sons: Richard Shiarella of Morristown, NJ; John Shiarella of Peterborough, NH; and Kenneth Shiarella of Denver, CO. All three of her sons survive her. Mom has 3 grandchildren: Ripley Shiarella (23); Reilly Shiarella (21); and George Shiarella (13). She was intensely loyal to her family and a very keen judge of character. She loved the Hallmark channel, The music of Josh Groban and was a formidable card player, particularly bridge.
She also attended the Seton Hall University and graduated with a BA in business in 1980.
Betty was an avid animal lover and was often seen around Boca Grande riding her golf cart with her pet Norwich Terrier “Hudson,” named after the popular downtown market “Hudson’s.”
Betty was a long-time resident of Boca Grande and has many friends here.
The family will have a memorial mass for her at the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Boca Grande at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 26.
