Born in Norborne, Mo., he moved to Florida in 1968 from Shawnee Mission. He was a Navy fighter pilot instructor in Pensacola during WWII. During his 50 years of sobriety he established, in Kansas and Florida, many chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he was lovingly known as “Johnny.”

He was instrumental in starting Serenity House in Fort Myers. He also established Boca Grande Real Estate, where he was a broker/partner for nearly 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Geneva Arehart; three brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; daughters Linda Catlett (Del), Kerry Gilbert (Don), and Barbara Sutton (Tony); grandchildren Laurie Cole, Christopher Catlett, Dana Catlett, Shane Gibson, Scott Gibson, Jerry Hartley; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
