Letter to the Editor: BIPS raises the roof – and lots of $ – with Green Gala

IMG_7539Dear Editor;

Then the lights went out. The Barrier Island Parks Society has wrapped up its “Light up the Night” 19th Annual Green Gala. This year’s fundraising event was sold out and raised over $55,000! We could not have done this without the generous support of this community, not only financially, but of the many people who gave of their time and talents.

This year we wanted to get back to our “roots” and highlight the many things BIPS supports; from our affiliated Florida State Parks and our many educational programs to our beloved Port Boca Grande Lighthouse and museum. Our theme, “Light up the Night,” shined renewed focus on these areas, all while having a great time. We danced the night away to the 70s and 80s music of the “The Crashers” band. The gulf view and the breathtaking sunset from the tented lawn at the Boca Bay Pass Club were unmatched. The new chef showed off some of his culinary skills with a carved jumping fish ice sculpture and pineapple palm tree display at the entrance and then captured our taste buds with island fare morsels. And of course the one of a kind Live and Silent Action items helped us raise much needed funds.

We have so many we wish we had room to individually express our gratitude to publicly. Please know that we extend our most sincere thanks to our table sponsors, donors, mission moment supporters, volunteers, BIPS board of directors, Green Gala committee chairs, auction donors, in-kind sponsors, vendors, entertainment, production and media and of course all those who attended.

To all of you, it was a memorable evening and without you we could not continue to uphold our mission of preserving our parks and history for generations to come.  We look forward to Green Gala 2016!
