We are pleased to announce our 2014 Pet calendars have arrived just in time for the holidays! The calendars will be available at our facility, our three thrift stores, our website (the donation page), many events throughout the area and several local merchants.
What began two years ago as an Adult Day Respite Program, the “Forget-me-Nots,” will expand its offerings this fall. There has been a call for more activities and socialization opportunities for the seniors of Boca Grande and its neighboring communities.
After over two decades of efforts by multiple parties to have our Boca Grande Rear Range Light and land turned over to the public domain, on Aug. 15, 2013, the Department of the Army formally relinquished any and all claims on the property. This decision will allow the Coast Guard to process the property back to the Bureau of Land Management and Public Domain for further action. With this letter, this land is removed from use for military purposes enacted by Executive Orders dated Aug. 24, 1847.
In 1980, this island was an unpainted historic village (yet to be discovered) with railroad tracks through the middle and plenty of jungle.
To the Editor:As a member of the Boca Grande Garden Club, I have listened to countless speakers rave about the beauty of this unique island.
