To the Editor:
I would like to send out a letter of thanks to Deputy Angelo Lanni of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The Boca Grande Community Center had a water main break on Monday evening at the Multi-Purpose Room.
As I was about to shut off the water out on Park Avenue, Deputy Lanni pulled up and asked if everything was OK. I told him of the situation and he assisted me by shining his light so I could get the water shut off.
Deputy Lanni then parked his patrol car and followed me to assess the damage. Once inside, we discovered that muddy, sandy water, about a ½ inch thick, covered the floor of the foyer, both restrooms, the Special Interest Room and the main hall.
Deputy Lanni assisted me in removing things from the floor to minimize their damage. He then grabbed a mop to aid my efforts to get the water off of the floor. After about a solid half hour of sopping up water, we completed our task. Immediately, he departed to continue his nightly patrol of the island.
After a phone call from Supervisor Joe Wier Tuesday morning, I learned that the damage was minimal due to the early discovery of the break and the removal of the water off of the floor and away from the walls in a timely manner. If it was not for Deputy Lanni’s unselfish assistance, the Community Center was looking at two to three weeks of repairs and an estimated bill of at least $20,000 per Lee CountyFacilities Department.
Deputy Lanni is a true treasure to this island. He has a sincere interest for all of Boca Grande.
Thank you Deputy Lanni for all you do!D.J. KeislingAdministrative Assistant Friends of Boca Grande Community Center& Recreation SpecialistLee County Parks & Recreation
