Thank you so much for your support and articles helping the Florida Atlantic Surf Team. Boca Beacon, your articles and kindness in helping us raise much-needed funds made the trip possible, and what a trip it was.
The National Scholastic Surfing Association competition was held at a point break in southern California called Salt Creek at Dana Point. More than 350 surfers from all over the U.S. came to compete, with a large concentration being from California.
The college competition was fierce with a lot of paddle battles for the point wave. We surfed many heats and, along with some of my teammates, we made it to the semi-finals.
I finished fourth in the semi-final, not going on to finals, and overall my team came in 10th place nationally ranked. The local California teams came in all top positions.
We had a terrific surf trip and enjoyed the company of the UCF team that also competed. Local friends, Chantel Spurgeon and the Sligar family (Gary, Sue and Reed), came by to support us.
We would get up at 5 a.m. and surf the world famous Trestles beach breaks. The clean, long and gentle chest- and head-high waves were simply paradise for Florida surfers. This experience was about life-long college memories, scholastic achievement, sportsmanship, networking and knowing it would never have been possible without the love and support of the following people: Bob Melvin of Gasparilla Properties, Hal Coleman, Sue Sligar of Compass Interiors, Mrs. Ann White, Mr. & Mrs. David Galliher, Mr. Bruce Carbonari, Ted McDermit, Mr. & Mrs. Dave Hayden, Eva Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Regnery and family, Jackie Sullivan of Statewide Pest Control, Clare Doyle, Polly Flinn, Betsy Joiner, Mrs. Patricia Schuler, Becky Paterson & Seale Family Realtors, and in loving memory of Deepwater Dave and his family who supports us.
Thank you very much.
