To the Editor:
The Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce wants your readership to be aware of our position on the Gilchrist Avenue parking issue. Below you will see the letter sent to Commissioner John Manning’s office last month.
Dear Commissioner Manning:
This letter is to inform you of my support of the plan for Gilchrist Avenue that The Gasparilla Inn has proposed concerning the beautification, safety and functionality of this four-block area. Not only is Gilchrist Avenue an important historical piece of our community, but it also services many other vital day-to-day purposes in Boca Grande.
We believe this plan best serves our entire community by the planting of palm trees spaced to organize parking, natural plantings to prevent “pull-through” vehicles and a grass surface for the parking of cars or golf carts. This plan takes into full consideration the optimization of parking places, beautification, safety, as well as reasonable maintenance to ensure the future continuity of the area.
Please know that we support this overall versatile plan of this important thoroughfare in Boca Grande.
