To the Editor:
It was windy and chilly in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 6. Nevertheless, many dedicated volunteers showed up for an assignment. Wearing jackets or sweaters, they signed up to help keep Boca Grande tidy and beautiful. Each person was assigned a segment of the island and, with their bags and pick up devices in hand, marched off to do their work.
The following participants made this year’s cleanup another notable success: Roger Nichols, Bob Elliott, Dick Campbell, Andy Ireland, Bayne Stevenson, Mary O’Bannon, Philip O’Bannon, Tom Gilligan, Marian Gilligan, Nat Italiano, George Milne, Chuck Van Zoeren, Jo Van Zoeren, Davis Hammond, Martha Diebold, Deb Martin, Dusty Hopkins, Cheryl Hopkins, Elizabeth Schum, Frank Strong, Barbara Strong, Misty Nichols, Julia Krieg, Louise Mauran, John Stanley, Sarah Watkins, and Scotlyn Steele.
Additionally, we wish to acknowledge the many residents who routinely pick up debris as part of their daily walk or exercise program.
Thank you one and all!
We also extend our thanks and appreciation to the other island businesses and organizations who participated with the GICIA and Italiano Insurance: Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce, Gasparilla Island State Park, and Brook’s Hauling.
