Red tide has been detected in low to moderate levels from Charlotte County to Lee County.

The area directly around Boca Grande has very low to no red tide levels detected as of the December 2 report, but the blooms have shifted back and forth since then.

Local children’s author Evelyn Finnegan shared one of her works with the children in Miss Wendy’s pre-school class at the Boca Grande Child Care Center this week. Mrs. Finnegan is a regular visitor to the child care center.                 Photo submitted

Far and away the most abundant wintering warbler in Florida, the yellow-rumped warbler is a common sighting from October through April. A clue to its abundance lies in one of its nicknames, the myrtle warbler. It is the only warbler able to digest the waxes found in bayberries and wax myrtle trees, both of which are a common shrub across Southwest Florida.
