From the Queen to Hyannis Port and beyond, Friends of Boca Grande Community Center is starting their season of educational, informative and entertaining lectures and performances out in a big way.
On Monday, Nov. 18, Friends will present a National Theater Live performance of “The Audience,” starring Helen Mirren. It will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
If you have never experienced National Theater Live, now is your chance. You don’t have to travel to London for the thrill of Helen Mirren’s award-winning theater performance.
West End Productions brings the show to you via its filming of an actual theater presentation. Ms. Mirren reprises her winning performance as Queen Elizabeth I, showcasing the private side of the Queen through decades of meetings with prime ministers from Churchill to Cameron.
Ticket prices are $20, available in advance at Friends Office or online at friendsofbocagrande.org. A limited quantity may be available for purchase in the theater lobby on evening of performance.
On Friday, Nov. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the auditorium, Andrew Fone will host a lecture titled “At the Center of the World: Hyannis Port and the Presidency of John F. Kennedy.”
Our well-loved documentarian returns to Boca Grande with rarely seen film footage and interviews featuring the impact of the shocking events of 50 years ago in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
The ticket price is $20, and they are available in advance at Friends’ Office, or online at friendsofbocagrande.org. A limited quantity may be available for purchase in the theater lobby on day of performance.

Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience: Transport your mind, body and spirit to a make-believe South Pacific Island – just a short cruise from Boca Grande. Join Friends aboard the M/V Santiva to spend a day on Pine Island with popular author Robert Macomber. The theme for the day is in keeping with Honors Rendered exotic South Pacific locale.
Macomber, dressed in traditional Samoan garb, will be on hand to say “aloha” and to welcome guests to his grand book signing for the 11th Annual Southwest Florida Reader Rendezvous. Relax with a tropical South Pacific drink while sporting your most outrageous Hawaiian shirt.

The Englewood Pop Warner Cheer Association has a goal, and that goal is to raise $5,000 to go to regional Cheer Competition in Orlando this Thanksgiving.
This month, the group is selling HoneyBaked Ham gift cards in the amounts of $10, $25, $35 and $50, and holiday pies from Publix Bakery. Apple, dutch apple and pumpkin pies are available, and each one is $6 including tax.
All orders must be in by Nov. 21, and pies will be given to cheerleaders on Nov. 23 for distribution.
Right now, the girls’ funds are low. If you would like to order, contact island resident Roselle Agles, whose daughter, Zoe, is part of the squad. She can be reached at (505) 470-8785 or at email@example.com.
