She and Beacon owner and publisher Dusty Hopkins shared a first-place win for faith and family reporting. Reporter Liza Strout took a first place in the sports feature category.
David Horton took a second place in the original local editorial cartoon category for one of his “Hortoons,” and Liza Strout took a second in the category for a photo series in one issue. Dusty received second-place awards for portfolio photography and for sports photos. Our own Phil Woods received a second place for his golf column as well.
Marcy received a third-place editorial award, a third-place award in the arts/entertainment review category, a third place for local government reporting and a third place for sports news photos. The entire Beacon team also took a third place for a photo series in one issue.
“We are exceedingly pleased with the outcome of the awards this year,” Hopkins said. “Everyone worked hard this year to make the Beacon shine, and the judges seemed to agree.”
