According to Joe Wier, supervisor for Lee County Parks and Recreation, here’s how it will work. The Gasparilla Island Conservation and Improvement Association office will move to the old Munchkins room, in the southeast corner of the facility. The fitness center will be moved to where the GICIA office is now, and Bob, Joe and David’s office will be moved to where the fitness center is now. There will also be a window between the Parks & Rec office and the fitness center, so all activities can be overseen.
The Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center will have the old Parks & Recreation office, and what is now the Reference Room will become a large multi-purpose room. The Woman’s Club Room will remain the same as it is now, as will the current multi-purpose room. The only exception to that is the small room just off the current multi-purpose room. It will be renovated to become a small meeting room.
Of course, the current Reference Room will be combining with the Johann Fust Community Library on 10th Street.
“It will be a nice change, I think people will enjoy it,” Wier said. “We’re expecting to start moving things in June, and moving the Reference Room in the middle of June. The new multi-purpose rooms will be used by all island organizations.”
