The Board of the Gasparilla Island Conservation and Improvement Association, at its regular meeting on April 19, endorsed the plan developed by the Gasparilla Inn & Club for revitalizing the median strip on Gilchrist Avenue between 5th Street and 1st Street.
Earlier, Commissioner Manning of Lee County requested that the GICIA select one plan. The vote was unanimous with two members abstaining due to potential conflicts of interest.
The plan involves planting palm trees spaced to organize parking, natural plantings to prevent “pull through” vehicles and grass surfaces that allow for continued parking in this area.
It also takes into consideration optimizing the number of parking spaces allowed, beautification and reasonable maintenance.
The GICIA board is encouraged by the growing support of the community of this plan and the endorsement by the three affected churches, the Gasparilla Inn and the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce.
