The Barrier Island Parks Society’s third annual “Cookout in Paradise” will be held on Monday, March 18 at the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse and Museum compound, and everyone is invited.
“When BIPS first was formed by a bunch of local people, they had fish fries under the lighthouse to raise money to fix up the lighthouse,” said Chad Lach, park manager for Gasparilla Island Administration. “Over the years we’ve gone to bigger events that cost folks a lot of money to go. I wanted to do something that everyone could afford to attend, an event with good food and good music to listen to, for a reasonable price. This is the kind of thing we like to do to give back to the community. Everyone is invited to come, eat, drink, enjoy, and watch the sunset over the Pass.”
The cookout begins at 6:30 p.m. Food will include pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, cole slaw and salad, and will be cooked by Lach himself. Cost is $10 per plate for adults, and $5 for children.
Kenny Rose, a local favorite, will provide the entertainment.
