Spaghetti, jazz, yapping and more this week

He's back!
He's back!
This week’s island activities re-affirm the old adage, “When it rains, it pours.” And season is just getting started.

Royal Palm Players will be holding a spectacular production of “California Suite” on Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. at the Boca Grande Community Center Auditorium, and on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. We have heard some nights are either sold out or close to it, so don’t delay in getting tickets or calling the box office at 964-2670 to find out more. See Mary Anne Cole’s review of the play on page 19.

On Saturday, Feb. 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. come to the Crowninshield Community House to meet Lillian Bay Beatty, her dad, Brad and the author of two books about her medical triumphs.

On Saturday afternoon make sure you stop by Yappy Hour with the pup in your life. It will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at Dolphin Cove, and among the other highlights of the event (puppy and human treats, artwork, toys and more), Lana from Mindbodymassage will be there offering relaxing 10-minute chair massages.

The Boca Grande Art Alliance’s Valentine Show will continue through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Team Hudson’s will be raising funds for Boca Grande Relay for life with a barbecue on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will be grilling burgers and dogs for donations.

The first spaghetti dinner of the season will be Sunday night as well. From 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. stop by the Crowninshield Community House to be served some of the finest pasta around. Bring some wine, relax, and be among friends. The next spaghetti dinner after this one will be March 10.

Join the Friends of the Boca Grande Community Center for an evening of jazz on Monday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. at the Crowninshield Community House.

The Patricia Dean Trio will be the entertainment, featuring the versatile and dynamic pianist Stu Shelton, Dave Trefethen on bass and guitar and the unique female drumming and vocals of Patricia Dean. They will perform songs from the Great American Songbook, as well as Brazilian Bossa Nova, jazz, ballads and more.

Tickets are not given out in advance for the concert. Call the Friends office to get your seat assignment.

Bring your own refreshments. Friends will supply snacks, cups and cocktail napkins. Dress is nightclub casual.

Call Denise at 964-0827 (the Friends office) for more information.

Also, keep in mind there will be a second jazz performance by Kitt Moran on April 8, also at the Crowninshield House. Call Friends for more information.

Team Hudson’s will be raising funds for Boca Grande Relay for life again on Wednesday, Feb. 13 with a bake sale in front of Hudson’s from 2 to 5:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Feb. 14  Rosemary Bowler will be talking about “Villains and Victims of Bad Press” at 10 a.m. The cost is $100 and it will be held in the Woman’s Club Room at the Boca Grande Community Center.

This will be an ongoing series, call 964-0827 for more information.
