And what does the first week of the year hold in store?

Yappy Hour will return on Saturday, Jan. 5. Festivities begin again at dusk in the Pink Pony’s courtyard.

The event will feature free dog treats, complimentary wine tasting, cat and dog merchandise, therapy dogs from the Suncoast Humane Society, Woof Gang Bakery, great T-shirts and artist Kelly Reark. All are welcome. Call 964-0109 for more information.

Learn spreadsheet basics in good company during a three-hour workshop to be held on Monday, Jan. 7.

Attendees must bring their laptops to class, and must have Microsoft Excel installed. There is a 10 person limit for this workshop.

Class is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon in the Woman’s Club Room. Cost is $30. Call 964-2564 to register.

On Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 4 p.m. the Scholarly Pursuits Lecture Series will present Diane Gilbert Madsen, who will speak about her recent book “Hunting for Hemingway” in the Boca Grande Community Center Auditorium.   

Her lecture will be followed by a wine and cheese reception and book signing in the Woman’s Club Room.

The cost is $25. Call 964-0827 for tickets.

All are invited to attend the ribbon cutting and open house at the new Mote Marine Laboratory Boca Grande office.  

The new office will be located at 480 E. Railroad Ave in unit 7 of the Railroad Plaza.  The open house will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m.
