The end of an era in Boca Grande

48aec2af1e7731ebb9a316d8b6d4bbf9.jpgBY LIZA STROUT - Cpl. William Held has patrolled the streets of Boca Grande for the past eight years. In a couple of weeks, he will take his last ride, write his last ticket and hang up his badge. After 27 years in law enforcement, Bill is retiring.

Before Florida, Bill was with the Independence County Sheriff’s Department in Arkansas. When he came to Lee County, he was assigned to what was then called the West District, now Charlie District. He was the detective on Fort Myers Beach, then transferred to Lehigh and then back to West District, this time in San Carlos.

His next transfer brought him and his wife, Judy, to Boca Grande.
