BY MARCY SHORTUSE - There are problems arising with absentee ballot voting in Lee County. Now the Lee County Supervisor of Elections is blaming the ballot vendor and the United States Postal Service for at least one issue.
A Lee County voter who does not wish to be named called the Boca Beacon to ask if there were other voters who had not received their absentee ballots. The woman said that her husband called the Fort Myers election office in the end of September to ask when their ballots would be arriving to their part-time Wisconsin residence. He was told the ballots would be sent out by early October.
When the ballots hadn’t arrived by October 15, a second call was made by the couple to see when they might receive the ballots.
“We spoke with someone named DuWayne who said they had such a tremendous request they had run out,” she said. My husband and I are in our 80s, and we need time to go through the ballot before making decisions.”
