National Theatre Live comes to Boca Grande

STAFF REPORT - On October 8 at 7 p.m., the Friends of Boca Grande Community Center will rebroadcast the National Theatre Live performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, directed by Marianne Elliott.

Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, the play opens with Christopher, who is fifteen years old, standing beside Mrs Shears’ dead dog.

It has been speared with a garden fork, it is seven minutes after midnight and Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in the book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington.

He has an extraordinary brain, exceptional at math while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers.

But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.

Simon Stephens’ adaptation offers a richly-theatrical exploration of the touching and bleakly humorous award-winning novel.

A full season of rebroadcasts is planned, with the second scheduled for November 26.

Stephen Beresford’s new play, The Last of the Haussmans is directed by Howard Davies. The play examines the fate of the 1960s revolutionary generation and offers a funny, touching and at times savage portrait of a family full of longing that's losing its grip.
