Look out island men, you're outnumbered

Demographic information recently released by a company called ZipCode.org bring some interesting Boca Grande facts to light that we thought we would share with you, our loyal readers.

To say we’re slightly different than the rest of the country is an understatement. These statistics, by the way, were based on the 2000 census, and are only for the 33921 zip code.

For instance, most people who live here know we have approximately 1,500 residents. Did you know, though, that 1,490 of those residents listed “white” as their ethnicity, six listed “black,” 17 listed “Hispanic” and two listed themselves as Asian?

We also have more women than men, according to this set of statistics. ZipCode.org said that our female population is 793, while 707 are men.

Many who aren’t aware of Boca Grande’s unique population would be puzzled to read that while the average house on the island lists for $766,800, the average income is $127,020.

To some it would appear we are wizards with money.
