Dr. Holly Thacker will be giving a lecture on the topic of women’s health, titled “Be Strong, Be Healthy, and Be in Charge.”
Thacker is the Director for the Center for Specialized Women’s Health at Cleveland Clinic, and one of the country’s leading advocates in women’s health issues. She has won several awards and grants based on her work in the field.
Thacker recently published her second women’s health book, “Cleveland Clinic Guide to Menopause.”
”From the hormonal, genetic, and molecular aspects of health, to the way that women respond to medications and the progression of diseases, the differences between the sexes has traditionally been ignored,” Thacker said. “Most results from studies are based on men, and are being used as the basis for treatment of everyone.”
Thacker explained that while it might not seem obvious, even after menopause there are many differences in the health needs of men and women, and these differences have not been studied in depth until recently.
Some topics to be covered in the lecture include maintaining your health, how to be healthy and strong, and learning how to be your own health advocate.
Those who cannot attend the event are urged to visit the website www.speakingofwomenshealth.com. The site includes articles and columns, as well as links to informative videos, and a Facebook and twitter account.
After the lecture refreshments will be served, and everyone will get a chance to meet Thacker in the Women’s Club Room. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Contact 964-0490 for more information.
