To the Editor:
Gasparilla Island Water Association, Inc. (GIWA) will begin work to relocate their water and sewer mains at the south bridge on the Boca Grande Causeway. This is a requirement for (GIBA) Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority to begin demolition and construction of the new south bridge in June of 2012.
GIWA’s new water and sewer mains will be installed underwater by directional boring on the west side of the southernmost bridge. GIWA’s existing water mains are located on the east side of the Gasparilla Road which means it will be necessary to cut across the road on both the north and south sides of the bridge to connect the new water main to the west side. To have the new water mains in service by June 2012 this work must be done during season. We will minimize the impact to traffic by installing two temporary lanes to keep the traffic moving. This work is scheduled to start February 21 and be completed February 24.
GIWA wants to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our community and our visitors.
