Bridge surveys ... what are they for?

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, toll-takers started handing out surveys. Some people took them to fill out, others didn’t.

Those who do fill them out and return them, though, have a chance at winning a 30-trip toll pass.

“The reason we are doing the survey this time of year is because we wanted to get a representative month out of season,” said Jim Cooper, GIBA’s executive director. “We want to get a seven-day flow of traffic.”

Toll-takers will be handing the surveys out through Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Toll employees will be monitoring all three booths as they are open, even the self-scan lane.

“Most folks are accepting the cards, a few people, though, don’t want them,” Cooper said. “It’s not surprising.”

The cards are post-paid, and can be brought into the administration building or dropped in the mail.

At the end of the survey a random card will be drawn for the 30-trip pass.

This survey is a part of the Wilber Smith traffic flow study, and the information gathered will be used to see if income recommendations make sense.

“If we go out to bond later on, what’s required is a certified traffic and revenue flow study,” Cooper said. “It’s been budgeted in already. “If you want to get bonding, you need a traffic study.”
Cooper said the results of the survey should be ready by about May 1.
