The dates of two island Halloween traditions are rapidly approaching. The Boca Grande Community Center Halloween Carnival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. and the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce Halloween Walk will be held on Monday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m.
The carnival will start off with a costume contest at 4 p.m. The age groups will be 0-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12. There will also be the Family/Group division.
Registration will take place in front of the outside stage from 3:30 to 3:50 p.m. Awards and ribbons will be given to every child.
Following the costume contest, everyone is invited to participate in homemade carnival games. Take a chance at the dunk tank, join in on the cake walk or enjoy some refreshments from the Black Cat Café. Wristbands will be sold for $5 for the games, and tickets can be purchased for food and the cake walk. This year the event’s coordinators are asking all families to donate one bag (or more) of individually-wrapped soft candy per child. Drop the candy off no later than Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Volunteers are being sought to staff the game booths, sell tickets, pass out food, and help out with overall preparations of the carnival. If you would like to volunteer or donate a cake for the popular cake walk, call the Community Center at 964-2564.
The Halloween Walk, sponsored by the chamber, focuses around the businesses in the downtown area. Children and their parents are encouraged to stop by each participating store and pick up a snack … it’s the Boca way to trick-or-treat!
