FWC break-away jig study refuted by originating scientist Friday, 17 May 2013 10:06 BY MARCY SHORTUSE - In the summer of 2004 Dr. Justin Grubich picked up the phone to take a call from a woman who said she was with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The woman, Kathy Guindon, talked with Justin for about 30 minutes foul-hooking tarpon, and he was asked to provide expert witness testimony on how tarpon feed. Romney comes up the winner at Boca Grande polls

Mitt Romney came out the winner at the Boca Grande polls on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in the Republican presidential primary election. By the end of the day, he had garnered 346 votes at the Boca Grande Community Center polling place.

Awash on the rocks ...

Early Monday morning the Boca Grande Fire Department and Sea Tow responded to a call of a boat washed up on the rocks in Charlotte Harbor, by Boca Bay. Neighbors say that a cooler and other items were left on a nearby lawn by the boat’s occupants, who all escaped without injury. The boat was removed by Sea Tow the same day.

Get tickets now for the 2012 Tarpon Ball: $4,000 in vittles to be raffled off

It’s time to rope in yer partner, harness up your fine steed (or Mercedes) and head on down to the 2012 Tarpon Ball.

A benefit for The Island School, “The Tarpon Ball Round-up,” is their biggest fundraiser of the year, and will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Amory Chapel.

Fire Department to host Sea School next week

The Sea School will hold a captain's license course that at the Boca Grande Fire Dept. from Monday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 12, with the final exam on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The class will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
