Troy, you also should be clear that the ONLY people to not show acceptance of Sport Fish status for Tarpon were the PTTS, its sponsors, and participants. Even the FGA, which you are a board member, only voiced concerns with the inclusion of Permit as there is a recreational harvest component to permit for FOOD (not ratings.)

Unfortunately not all people in this world are wealthy or fortunate enough to own a boat, or are able to book a charter for $1,000 or more. For the 98.3% of the american public who do NOT own a seaworthy vessel, a portion of the fish that belong to ALL of us (not just those that own boats or book charters) were set aside for commercial harvest. That means you do not have to own a boat in order to enjoy a FRESH, LOCAL, and HEALTHY seafood meal. I went through a great deal of time, effort, and expense in order to be the ONLY legal provider of IFQ managed species in Boca/Englewood. I sell directly, without the added expense of middle men, passing on the saving to my customer. All of my fish are harvested by rod and reel, on circle hooks, using RESPONSIBLY SOURCED baits. Fish that we do not keep are carefully vented, or better yet often recompressed using state of the art recompression tools. All of this while offering the local fish consuming public a domestic product that is higher quality, healthier, and at a fraction of the cost of imports or fish caught by "shareholders". The IFQ system was in place before I entered the fishery. On my last commercial trip I wrote a check for fully 40% of my GROSS take to pay for IFQ allocation that I was FORCED to purchase from a longline vessel in Madeira Beach. Do I agree with the system? No. Do I fight it every chance I get? Yes. Should I stop using my god-given skills as a fisherman to provide the ONLY remaining source for LOCAL grouper and snapper in my area so that people not fortunate enough to own a boat can enjoy a meal of fresh grouper or snapper? I dont think I even need to answer this one. I know that people like yourself would like to monopolize the fish in the sea in order to help your sponsors sell motors, and in order to FORCE those who want to consume a local seafood meal to pay the charter fees of you and your wife. I do not.

Yes they are and they have Mark, who ever you are. To bad that some of those instrumental in this orchestra are actively buying and holding IFQ " individual fish quota" to sell a specie of fish that is undergoing overfishing. The same reef fish that have been severely restricted to family level fishing and causing an extreme effort shift to all shallow water specie. Save the Grouper! I will let the investigative staff at this paper do their home work on who they want to support "report on" if the concern is about the fish and not the money. As far as status sportfish / gamefish. "The determination was made at their Thursday, Sept. 6 meeting held in Tampa." Nonsense, There was no determination made, no vote, and the idea not widely accepted by those in attendance. Not to mention staffs report was about as generic as it gets. The real rock stars in the fishery are those specie being over harvested commercially by a select few. To bad the local economist presenting to the FWC Thursday forgot about all the other opportunities for the average recreational angler.
